Omo-Agege Joins NDC, Declares for Delta Central Senate Seat in 2027
Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and declared his intention to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Omo-Agege said his decision followed weeks of consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders across Delta State and beyond. According to him, the move was driven by what he described as a growing demand among Deltans for leadership rooted in accountability, inclusion and service delivery.
The former senator said the NDC offers a credible platform to advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria, noting that the party’s commitment to grassroots participation, transparency and true federalism aligns with his political vision.
Declaring his return to the senatorial race, Omo-Agege said the decision was in response to calls from constituents who want him back in the National Assembly to provide what he called “effective representation that matters.”
He also took aim at the current state of governance in Delta, lamenting poor road infrastructure, struggling public health centres, unemployment and underdevelopment despite huge federal allocations to the state. He said Deltans deserve better leadership and promised to push for accountability and equitable development if elected in 2027.
Omo-Agege added that one of his immediate priorities within the NDC would be strengthening the party’s structure across Delta State ahead of the elections through grassroots mobilisation and membership expansion.
He also called on youths, women and voters across the state to begin organising ahead of 2027, describing the next election as a defining moment for Delta and Nigeria.
