Itsekiri Group Demands Withdrawal of Warri Delineation, Decries Youths’ Attacks

The Itsekiri Grassroot Coalition has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the proposed ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency, describing the exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a threat to the political identity and constitutional rights of the Itsekiri people.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, the group also condemned the alleged attack on peaceful Itsekiri youths protesting the exercise under the aegis of Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY).

The coalition accused INEC of attempting to marginalise the Itsekiri nation through a delineation process it said lacked transparency and inclusiveness, warning that such actions could heighten tensions in the oil-rich region.

Among its demands, the group called for a public apology from INEC, a fresh stakeholder-driven delineation exercise, and an independent investigation into the alleged assault on protesters.

The coalition further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, civil society organisations, and traditional institutions to intervene urgently to prevent further escalation.

“The Itsekiri people will continue to resist every form of political exclusion and injustice through lawful democratic means,” the statement added.
