Sapele LG Lifts Ban on Commercial Motorcycles With New Restrictions

The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke, has lifted the suspension placed on commercial motorcycle operations in Sapele, weeks after the restriction was imposed following a clash involving northern commercial motorcycle riders.

The ban, which took effect on April 30, 2026, was introduced as part of efforts to restore order and improve security within the area.

Announcing the lifting of the suspension on Tuesday, authorities outlined a number of conditions commercial motorcycle riders must comply with before resuming operations in Sapele.

According to the directive, every commercial motorcycle owner or rider must first be profiled at the Sapele Local Government Secretariat.

The council also announced movement restrictions on certain routes. Commercial motorcycles are no longer allowed to operate between Ajogodo and Amukpe in either direction.

Similarly, riders have been barred from operating between Total and Texaco along New Ogorode Road, as the areas have now been designated as restricted zones.

Authorities urged all commercial motorcycle riders to strictly comply with the new regulations to ensure safety and maintain peace in the area.

Residents and riders also commended Hon. Bright Afure Abeke for responding to concerns raised by the people over the prolonged suspension of commercial motorcycle activities in the town.
