Turaki-Led PDP Faction to Screen Goodluck Jonathan Ahead of Presidential Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Tanimu Turaki has scheduled the screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, as the party’s lone presidential aspirant.
A 14-member screening committee has been constituted for the exercise. Members of the panel include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, and former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Sunday, the party disclosed that the screening exercise would hold nationwide at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The statement only referred to a lone presidential aspirant without mentioning a name.
However, inquiries by news sources confirmed that Jonathan is the sole aspirant expected to appear before the screening committee. The development comes days after the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, announced that Jonathan had completed his registration in the party’s fresh digital membership exercise directed by INEC.
The PDP faction, which is backed by Seyi Makinde, also revealed plans to screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, and 112 governorship aspirants ahead of the elections.
