APC Primaries: Ganagana Unseats Nigeria’s Longest-Serving Reps Member Mutu in Delta

Rt. Hon. Basil Okoloboawei Ganaganana & Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu

Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Basil Okoloboawei Ganagana, has defeated incumbent lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu, in the APC direct primaries for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Results announced by the returning officer showed that Ganagana polled a total of 14,632 votes across Bomadi and Patani Local Government Areas, while Mutu scored 1,093 votes.

In Bomadi LGA, Ganagana secured 10,329 votes against Mutu’s 701, while in Patani LGA, Ganagana polled 4,303 votes as Mutu garnered 392 votes.

The outcome signals a major political upset in the constituency, where Mutu has served in the House of Representatives since 1999.

Ganagana, who recently declared his ambition for the seat, had campaigned on promises of improved representation, infrastructure development and an end to what he described as years of marginalisation in the constituency.
