Delta South 2027: Itsekiri Coalition Endorses Michael Diden for Senate
Fresh political shifts emerged in Delta South on Saturday, as the Itsekiri Grassroots Coalition (IGC) endorsed Hon. Michael Diden a.k.a. Ejele, for the Delta South Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
The endorsement, announced during the inauguration of the Warri North chapter of the coalition in Koko, comes amid growing political calculations within the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the recent endorsement of incumbent Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for a second term.
Speaking at the event, IGC National Coordinator, Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, represented by Ben Eburajolo, said the Itsekiri nation would no longer accept political marginalisation, insisting it was time for fair representation in Delta South.
The group also expressed concern over recent comments made by Ijaw leader, Chief Godspower Gbenekema, warning against statements capable of heightening tension within the Warri Federal Constituency.
The coalition also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for second terms in office.
The coalition further disclosed that it had resolved to support an Itsekiri candidate for the Warri South-West State Constituency in the 2027 elections after efforts to persuade Ijaw leaders to present another aspirant failed.
Representative of the endorsed aspirant, Asagba Annette Uwale, thanked the group for the endorsement.
Meanwhile, Engr. Gbesimi emerged the Warri North Coordinator for the IGC.
Highlight of the gathering was a humanitarian outreach where cash gifts were distributed to elderly persons, pregnant women, and nursing mothers in the community as part of efforts to support vulnerable groups.
