Parents, Students Protest Exam Exclusion at Agbor Nursing College
Parents of students at the College of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, Delta State, have protested the exclusion of their children from enrolment for the upcoming Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria qualifying examination.
The issue affects about 54 graduates who were reportedly barred over a directive requiring them to retake a pre-council examination despite earlier success.
The school management’s decision has generated tension within the institution, with some students complying while others rejected the directive, insisting their previous results should remain valid.
A lecturer who spoke anonymously said the provost had already registered other students while leaving out the affected group, adding that the move appears inconsistent with official guidelines of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Some staff members and parents have called for urgent intervention, warning that delays could force the affected students to miss the current examination cycle and wait until the next one later in the year. Parents also argued that the requirement for re-examination is unfair, financially draining, and emotionally distressing for the students involved.
They appealed to relevant authorities to step in before the council’s registration portal closes, stressing that the core requirements for eligibility are attendance and completion of training.
However, the provost, Evbodaghe Ogonne, maintained that the decision will not be reversed, despite ongoing appeals from parents and students.
