Guwor Urges State Assemblies to Domesticate 2025 Tax Acts

Emomotimi Guwor

The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has urged State Houses of Assembly to adopt and domesticate the New Tax Acts of 2025 while strengthening their legislative roles in fiscal management and security governance.

He made this appeal at a workshop held in Lagos and organised by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), where he also praised the organisation for its consistent support to state legislatures across the country.

Guwor characterised the workshop as both timely and impactful, noting that it offers lawmakers a valuable platform to better understand emerging fiscal policies and improve their oversight responsibilities. He commended KAS for its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, enhancing legislative capacity, promoting transparency, and supporting governance reforms at the sub-national level.

Highlighting key contributions by KAS, he pointed to initiatives such as legislative strengthening programmes, institutional support efforts, and the harmonisation of Standing Orders across State Houses of Assembly, which he described as a significant step toward improving legislative procedures and efficiency. He added that such engagements will help lawmakers deepen their grasp of fiscal frameworks, strengthen oversight of public finances, and play a more effective role in addressing security challenges through appropriate legislation.
