Tinubu Approves ₦68.32tn 2026 Budget, Extends 2025 Capital Plan
President Bola Tinubu has given legal backing to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, setting the country’s total spending at ₦68.32 trillion. Alongside it, he approved an extension of the 2025 budget cycle, shifting its expiration from March 31 to June 30, 2026.
A breakdown of the new fiscal plan shows ₦4.799 trillion allocated for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt obligations, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent costs, and ₦32.2 trillion dedicated to capital projects through the Development Fund.
Details were made public in a statement released Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirming that both the appropriation and extension bills have been assented to.
The presidency indicated that the 2026 budget took effect from April 1, with implementation already underway. It added that the extension of the 2025 capital component is aimed at allowing critical infrastructure projects reach completion while ensuring efficient use of funds.
