Ughelli North Chairman Leads Arrest of Alleged Fake Doctor

A man identified as Abass Abubakar has been arrested for allegedly posing as an eye specialist and defrauding residents, especially elderly people, of Ekiugbo community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The arrest was carried out today in an operation led by Ughelli North Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, following complaints from members of the public.

Abubakar, said to be from Lafia, Nasarawa State, reportedly operated under the name Al-Arab Eye Clinic while running his activities from Benin City, according to a statement by the chairman.

He allegedly presented himself as a specialist treating cataract and glaucoma and charged patients between N300,000 and N500,000.

Authorities said substances given to patients as medicated eye drops were later suspected to be ordinary water.
