US Congress Report Urges Action on Nigeria Christian Killings
A congressional report on alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria has been formally delivered to the White House by members of the House Committees on Appropriations and Foreign Affairs. The submission follows President Donald Trump’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.
Congressman Riley Moore, who led a bipartisan delegation to Nigeria, said the findings stem from months of hearings, expert consultations, and visits to Internally Displaced Persons camps in Benue State. The delegation also engaged senior Nigerian officials, including the National Security Adviser.
Moore stated that the team now possesses a detailed assessment of security threats affecting Christian communities. He encouraged Nigeria to work closely with the United States to address extremist violence and reinforce bilateral cooperation.
Recommendations in the report include a US–Nigeria security pact focused on protecting vulnerable groups, targeted sanctions against perpetrators of religious violence, visa restrictions, and conditional funding tied to measurable progress in curbing attacks.
