El-Rufai’s Aide Faults ICPC Silence on Bail Request
Muyiwa Adekeye, spokesperson to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, says there has been no response from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to a bail application filed after his detention. Adekeye made the claim in a statement posted on X, noting that the former governor reported voluntarily to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 16, 2026.
According to him, legal proceedings are set to intensify this week. A fundamental rights suit seeking bail is fixed for hearing on February 25 at the FCT High Court, while arraignment on charges brought by the DSS is scheduled for the same day.
Adekeye also confirmed that El-Rufai has filed a separate action at the Federal High Court challenging the legality of a search conducted at his Abuja residence. He argued that the continued detention exceeds constitutional limits and that no remand order has been presented to his legal team.
The aide further alleged limited access to the former governor by family and counsel, alongside health concerns during custody. Several cases involving anti-corruption and security agencies are now running concurrently as the legal battle unfolds.
