Relief as Kidnapped 12-Year-Old Regains Freedom in Delta

A 12-year-old girl abducted during a deadly attack on Uduere Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has regained her freedom after spending several days in captivity.

Sources close to the family, disclosed that the girl was released around the Otokutu-Agbarha axis of Ughelli North and has since been reunited with her relatives.

The victim was kidnapped during an attack on the community that claimed the life of a security guard, Mr. Umukoro Obukohwo Emmanuel. The assailants reportedly stormed the area where the deceased was on duty, shot him dead and fled with the 12-year-old to an unknown destination.

Family sources disclosed that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million for the girl’s release but, after days of negotiations, allegedly accepted ₦16 million before setting her free.

A source familiar with the negotiations said the girl appeared weak and traumatised when she regained her freedom but was immediately reunited with her family.

While residents expressed relief over her safe return, they lamented the growing spate of kidnappings and violent attacks in the area, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible for the incident.

They also called on the Delta State Government to strengthen security across Uduere and neighbouring communities to prevent a recurrence of such attacks and restore confidence among residents.
