Delta Govt Provides Welfare Support as Army Recruitment Screening Continues in Asaba
The Nigerian Army Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) 91 screening exercise is ongoing at the Cenotaph Complex in Asaba, Delta State, with the state government stepping in to provide welfare support for shortlisted candidates as the process enters its tenth day.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved a daily welfare package aimed at easing the financial burden on applicants, alongside the provision of accommodation support items such as foams and bedding materials. Transport arrangements have also been made to convey candidates between their hostels and screening venues throughout the exercise, which is scheduled to end on June 23, 2026.
According to the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, the initiative is designed to ensure candidates remain comfortable and focused during the recruitment process.
He disclosed that 563 applicants from the state were shortlisted, with over 300 already screened while nearly 260 are still expected to report.
The screening is being conducted at two designated centres in Asaba, with medical examinations held at the Nigerian Army 63 Brigade Headquarters, while physical and credential verification takes place at the Cenotaph Complex.
Military officials also visited the exercise on Wednesday, including the Commander of the 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Folu Shonibare, and the Director of Recruitment at Army Headquarters, Brigadier General I. Sule.
They urged candidates to remain disciplined and assured them of a fair, transparent, and merit-based selection process.
Oghenesivbe further called on remaining candidates to report promptly with all required documents, including educational certificates, state of origin, NIN, BVN printout, and completed application and guarantor forms.
He also reminded applicants to comply strictly with the official dress code, noting that body tattoos, inscriptions, and multiple piercings are prohibited under the recruitment guidelines.
