DELSUTH Strike: Delta Govt Moves to Address Workers’ Grievances, Infrastructure Challenges

The Delta State Government has initiated efforts to resolve the ongoing strike at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, while also moving to address the institution’s longstanding infrastructure and electricity challenges.

The Chief Medical Director of DELSUTH, Prof. Harrison Abedi, disclosed this after a meeting with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba on Monday.

According to Prof. Abedi, the meeting focused on the issues that triggered the industrial action, as well as the hospital’s prolonged power outage and deteriorating infrastructure.

He said the state government had awarded a contract to restore stable electricity to the hospital and that the Ministry of Energy had begun implementation. He added that a high-tension transformer for a dedicated power supply was being transported from Lagos for installation.

Prof. Abedi also said Governor Oborevwori directed the hospital’s management to work with the Ministry of Health on a comprehensive rehabilitation of the teaching hospital to improve its facilities and service delivery.

He expressed optimism that the government’s intervention would pave the way for the striking unions to suspend the industrial action, allowing normal hospital services to resume.

The ongoing strike at DELSUTH has affected healthcare services at the state’s teaching hospital, with workers demanding action on issues affecting the institution’s operations.
