Court Grants Sowore ₦200 Million Bail in DSS Cybercrime Case
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of ₦200 million.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Justice Muhammad Umar ordered Sowore to provide two sureties.
According to the court, one surety must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property in Abuja.
The judge also directed the prosecution to verify the sureties before the bail conditions can be fulfilled.
As part of the bail terms, Sowore was ordered to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.
Sowore is facing prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.
The case was adjourned after proceedings on June 24 for the continuation of hearing, during which pending applications are expected to be addressed.
Sowore had earlier been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre after the court revoked the bail previously granted to him on self-recognition, citing his absence from an earlier court sitting.
