Oborevwori Fumes as Seven-Year Delay Stalls Learning at Irri Technical College Project
Plans to admit students into the Delta State Technical College, Irri, by September 2026, have been stalled after the institution remained unfinished seven years after the contract was awarded, prompting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to express anger over the slow pace of work.
During an unscheduled inspection of the project on Monday, the governor found no contractor or workers on site and described the level of progress as unacceptable.

Questioning the contractor’s commitment, he added: “If people are serious about a project, you will see them actively working on site. That was not the case here. I did not even find the contractor or workers on site. I am not satisfied with the work.”
The governor also dismissed assurances that the project would be ready by August, saying key components, including the workshop, landscaping and parts of the roofing, were yet to be completed.
Oborevwori blamed poor supervision for the prolonged delay and announced that both the contractor and the project consultant would be summoned to explain why the project had failed to meet completion timelines.
He reiterated that his administration would no longer tolerate abandoned or delayed government projects, insisting that contractors must deliver quality jobs on schedule.
