Delta Govt Assures Justice for Emede Residents After Operation Delta Sweep Clash

The Delta State Government has assured residents of Emede Kingdom in Isoko South Local Government Area that justice will be served following a recent clash between some community members and operatives of Operation Delta Sweep.

The assurance was conveyed during a visit to the community by a high-powered delegation sent by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and led by the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Sen. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas.

The delegation visited Emede to assess the extent of damage caused by the incident, sympathise with affected residents, and reinforce efforts aimed at restoring peace in the community.

Speaking during the visit, Senator Joel-Onowakpo said he was in the community on behalf of Governor Oborevwori to evaluate the situation and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns.

“His Excellency is deeply concerned about the unfortunate incident and has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated. The government remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that those affected receive the necessary support,” he said.

The senator urged residents, particularly those who suffered losses to businesses and property, to remain calm and law-abiding while the government carries out its investigation.

“The government is fully committed to investigating this matter thoroughly, addressing the wrongs done, and ensuring justice is served so that lasting peace and harmonious coexistence can prevail,” he stated.

Members of the delegation included the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Hon. Warri Ovoke; President-General of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), Prof. Christopher Akpotu; Grand Patron of the IDU, Chief Iduh Amadhe; the Area Commander, Ozoro, representing the Delta State Commissioner of Police; and a representative of the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Agbor.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Emede Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Johnson Egbo, Ewhiri II, to express solidarity with the monarch and the people of the kingdom following the incident.

Senator Joel-Onowakpo emphasized that peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding remain critical to resolving the crisis, expressing confidence that the community would emerge stronger and more united.
