Emevor Chairman, Two Others Face Assault Charges Over Attack on Indigene

Three men, including the Chairman of Emevor Community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ozoro over the alleged assault and intimidation of an indigene who criticised an abandoned Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) road project.

The defendants, identified in the charge sheet as Hon. Lucky Okeremu (48), Okiemute Oyibo (46), and Karo Akamakusi (45), are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit felony, assault occasioning harm, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and threat to life.

The arraignment follows an incident that reportedly occurred on July 5, 2026, at Emibuck Hotel and Suites in Emevor, where the defendants and others said to be at large allegedly assaulted Ogaga Godspower.

The incident had sparked outrage after it was alleged that the community chairman and members of his executive assaulted and publicly humiliated Godspower over a Facebook post in which he criticised an abandoned NDDC road project in the community.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly flogged the complainant, causing him bodily harm, while also conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace. They were further accused of threatening his life with the intent to intimidate or annoy him.

The offences are punishable under Sections 516, 355, 249(e), and 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap C.21, Volume 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

The case is before the court, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
