Community Chairman, Others Flog Youth in Emevor Over Social Media Post
A young man, Godspower Okedi, was dehumanised by members of his maternal community of Emevor, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, after a social media post criticizing community leaders.
Videos circulating online show Okedi being whipped with tree branches and forced to dance, while community officials, including the chairman, Lucky Okeremu and youth leader, watched.
Okedi said he paid for treatment after suffering injuries from the incident, which reportedly happened on Sunday.
The controversy followed a post in which he questioned plans to compensate farmers whose crops were destroyed by suspected herders, warning that such payments could encourage further attacks.
Community leaders have denied allegations that they collected money from herders, while the President General of Emevor Kingdom condemned the assault, describing it as unacceptable and promising a fair resolution.
The Isoko National Youth Assembly has also condemned the incident.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police are reported to have invited those allegedly involved, although no arrests have been confirmed.
