Olu of Warri Dissolves INYC Leadership, Forms Interim Committee
In a decisive intervention aimed at restructuring the youth structure within Warri kingdom, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR the Olu of Warri, has announced the dissolution of the leadership of the Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC), on Monday, 28 October, Warri Sentinel has learnt.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Itsekiri youths across Nigeria at the Olu’s Palace Hall, where the king expressed his vision for a unified and progressive youth organization.
Ogiame Atuwatse III stated that an interim committee led by three of his chiefs would guide the INYC through a reformation period of three months. The committee include Chiefs Omolubi Newuwumi, Wilson Olley and Esther Okotie-Eboh, two lawyers -Stephen Efejuku and Oritsetimeyin Otaru as well members from the National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) and the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG), representing a blend of emerging youth leaders from educational and professional backgrounds.
The decision to dissolve the council follows internal conflicts over the INYC’s leadership. The Warri Monarch added that the interim committee is tasked with drafting a new constitution, which is to be presented by the end of January 2025.
The king further announced that senior youth leaders over 40 years of age would serve as advisors to a morphed INYC, offering their experience to support the council’s development.
The Olu of Warri encouraged all Itsekiri youths to focus on constructive engagement and development within the kingdom, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, respect and the need for talented individuals to contribute to a stronger, more resilient youth organization for the Warri kingdom.
